Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remasters Should Launch Together
Fallout fans finally have several reasons to be excited about the future of the franchise. Bethesda has reportedly begun work on updated versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, while early development on Fallout 5 is also said to be underway. Obsidian Entertainment has additionally been linked to a separate Fallout spin-off.
Of these projects, the two remasters are likely to arrive first. If Bethesda wants their return to have the biggest possible impact, it should release both games together as one complete package.
Fallout Fans Have Waited Long Enough
Rumours surrounding remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas have circulated for years. However, Bethesda offered very few updates following the launch of Starfield. Apart from continued support for Fallout 76, the series appeared to be standing still.
The situation was similar with The Elder Scrolls 6, which was announced in 2018 but remained largely out of the spotlight. Bethesda’s silence left fans wondering when either franchise would properly return.
Attention has now shifted toward the two Fallout remasters. Although no release dates have been announced, remastering existing games should require less development time than creating an entirely new Fallout title. That raises hopes that one or both projects could arrive within the next couple of years.
A Bundle Would Offer the Best Experience
Despite sharing the same universe and core role-playing mechanics, Fallout 3 and New Vegas feel noticeably different from one another.
Fallout 3 takes players through the ruined streets of Washington, D.C., where the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave play major roles in the conflict. Its dark Capital Wasteland creates a bleak and dangerous atmosphere.
New Vegas trades those ruined city streets for the casinos and deserts of the Mojave. Its western-inspired setting, competing factions and greater focus on player choice give it a distinct identity.
Because the games offer such different adventures, including both in one collection would provide plenty of variety. Players could explore two separate wastelands without the package feeling repetitive.
A bundled release would also feel like a strong reward for fans who have spent years waiting for a major single-player Fallout launch. Bethesda has repeatedly re-released Fallout 4 and continued updating Fallout 76, but neither replaces the excitement of revisiting two of the franchise’s most popular entries.
The Games Need More Than Better Graphics
A visual upgrade would be welcome, but Bethesda must also improve the areas where both games show their age.
Modernised controls, smoother combat, improved menus, better performance and quicker loading times could make a major difference. Stability will be especially important, as the original games became known for crashes and technical problems on some platforms.
These improvements could also make the games far more appealing to people who discovered Fallout through Amazon’s live-action television series. Some newer fans may be interested in the older games but find their dated mechanics difficult to enjoy.
Updated versions would give that audience a much easier way to experience two important chapters in Fallout’s history.
Bethesda Should Take Advantage of the TV Show
The Fallout television series brought the franchise to a much larger audience, but Bethesda has yet to fully capitalise on that success.
There have been smaller connections, including television characters appearing in Fallout Shelter and The Ghoul being added to Fallout 76. However, fans are still waiting for a substantial new single-player release.
Launching the remasters near a future season of the show would make perfect sense. Interest in the Fallout universe will naturally rise whenever new episodes arrive, giving Bethesda the ideal opportunity to introduce television viewers to the games.
Even if the remasters are not ready for the next season, releasing them shortly afterwards could still benefit from the increased attention.
Could This Be Bethesda’s Comeback?
Bethesda has struggled to maintain the same excitement it once generated with Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Starfield attracted a large audience, but it did not connect with every player in the way the studio’s older franchises have.
Remastered versions of Fallout 3 and New Vegas could help rebuild that enthusiasm. They would bring back two fan favourites while giving Bethesda more time to develop the next major Fallout adventure.
There are still plenty of unanswered questions, including release dates, pricing and how extensive the upgrades will be. However, one thing seems clear: releasing both games together would create a far bigger moment than launching them separately.
For longtime fans and newcomers alike, a combined Fallout 3 and New Vegas collection could be exactly what the franchise needs.
