{"id":3556,"date":"2024-07-30T18:59:03","date_gmt":"2024-07-30T18:59:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldclassservers.net\/blog\/2024\/07\/30\/dragon-age-the-veilguard-has-a-massive-140000-lines-of-dialogue\/"},"modified":"2024-07-30T18:59:03","modified_gmt":"2024-07-30T18:59:03","slug":"dragon-age-the-veilguard-has-a-massive-140000-lines-of-dialogue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nextlevelnews.co.uk\/blog\/2024\/07\/30\/dragon-age-the-veilguard-has-a-massive-140000-lines-of-dialogue\/","title":{"rendered":"Dragon Age: The Veilguard Has a Massive 140,000 Lines of Dialogue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s a lot riding on Dragon Age: The Veilguard for BioWare, and it sounds like the upcoming fantasy RPG has a colossal script to match the pressure.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/games\/dragon-age\/dragon-age-the-veilgaurd-took-so-long-as-bioware-wanted-to-make-sure-we-got-this-one-right-that-and-it-takes-a-long-time-to-record-700-characters-and-140000-lines\/\">GamesRadar<\/a>, creative director John Epler and creative performance director Ashley Barlow explained why it\u2019s taken so long to get the fourth Dragon Age game, as it\u2019s been ten years since Dragon Age: Inquisition. Barlow revealed that casting on The Veilguard started five years ago, and there\u2019s been a <em>lot<\/em> of work done since then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes a long time to record 700 characters, you know &#8211; 80,000 lines or 140,000 lines with all the Rooks,\u201d Barlow said. \u201cIt just takes time to make good.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth highlighting the caveat that Barlow makes within that figure, specifying that it&#8217;s the Rooks that push it up to 140,000. Rook is the name for the playable protagonist in The Veilguard, and there are four voice actors to choose from (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/dragon-age-the-veilguard-voice-cast-revealed-including-erika-ishii-and-more\">BioWare revealed the voice casting<\/a> for the Rooks and the companions last week). So, that <em>could<\/em> mean it\u2019s just at 80,000 lines without taking into account the four Rook voices. <\/p>\n<p>Taken at face value, however, that 140,000 number puts it above Inquisition, which previously had the most lines of dialogue of any Dragon Age game with <a href=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/4-158-323-creatures-died-in-last-six-months-of-dragon-a-1663463262\">88,000 lines<\/a>. It\u2019s <em>probably<\/em> still not as much as Baldur\u2019s Gate 3 which, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/baldurs-gate-3s-collective-dialogue-has-triple-the-word-count-of-the-lord-of-the-rings-larian-reveals\">according to Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke<\/a>, contains triple the word count of Lord of the Rings, and it\u2019s also under Starfield, which apparently contains an absolutely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/starfield-dialogue-trees-revealed-in-new-video\">massive 250,000 lines of dialogue<\/a>. Still, it\u2019s nothing to sneeze at.<\/p>\n<p>More Dragon Age: The Veilguard information has been revealed in recent days, especially as some of the developers and voice cast hit San Diego Comic-Con last week (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/what-the-sag-aftra-video-game-actors-strike-means-for-gamershttps:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/what-the-sag-aftra-video-game-actors-strike-means-for-gamers\">a special SDCC exception was made<\/a> for the SAG-AFTRA video game strike <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/video-game-voice-actors-officially-go-on-strike-over-ai-protections\">that was called last week<\/a>).
