Final Fantasy VII Revelation<\/a> is available to wishlist on all major platforms, and fans have noticed that its pending rating on the Xbox store is a bit more intense than they expected.<\/p>\n

Set to release in Spring 2027, the last entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake<\/a> Trilogy wraps up the saga for Cloud and company in their quest to protect the planet from the incoming Meteor.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve gotten a few glimpses at gameplay over the last few months, showing off submarine combat, traversal via the Highwind, and an explanation of the new FITS system \u2014 but none of these point to a Mature rating.<\/p>\n

<\/section>\n

That\u2019s the current predicted rating that\u2019s listed on the game\u2019s Xbox page<\/u><\/a>, which says, \u201cRating pending, likely Mature 17+.\u201d As clarified by the ESRB\u2019s rating system<\/u><\/a>, the Mature rating is given to games that may contain \u201cintense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and\/or strong language.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, the game\u2019s rating is still pending, and the Mature prediction is simply a placeholder implemented by the ESRB likely based on many publicly unknown factors prior to its official rating. But why would Revelation be rated Mature, when the first two games in the trilogy were rated T for Teen?<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a couple possible explanations for this. The first could be that the ESRB is using the placeholder out of an abundance of caution due to Final Fantasy XVI<\/a>, which was notably rated Mature due to its sexual themes, language, and overall violence.<\/p>\n

<\/section>\n

The other explanation is that there could be a lot more violence, language, and sexual themes in this particular game\u2026 and that possibility is sending fans into a tizzy.<\/p>\n

Most can\u2019t help but bring up that saucy scene between Clive and Jill in FF16, wondering if the famous “Highwind scene” between Cloud and Tifa might get a bit more heated than was originally portrayed in the 1997 game.<\/p>\n
