For Assassin&#8217;s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the team worked on the game&#8217;s diving side-missions \u2014 a secondary activity that a separate team also worked on in the original Black Flag. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ubisoft Barcelona did all the underwater levels,&#8221; wrote Manel Cota, a tech and gameplay animator at the studio, via a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MaNeo_O\/status\/2076722161226539505\">post<\/a> on social media. &#8220;And that same team is being fired right now because Ubisoft thinks that&#8217;s what we deserve :)&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thanks! And that same team is being fired right now because Ubisoft thinks thats what we deserve \ud83d\ude42 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rf3p4fGzlH\">https:\/\/t.co\/rf3p4fGzlH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Manel Cota (@MaNeo_O) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MaNeo_O\/status\/2076722161226539505?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 13, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Today is a bittersweet day,&#8221; added Isabel Codina Garc\u00eda, a quality assurance lead at Ubisoft Barcelona, via a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:7481013489357107200\/\">LinkedIn<\/a> that noted that a portion of the Barcelona studio had been working on the game for over two years. &#8220;However, two weeks before launch, the whole AC team at Ubisoft Barcelona was informed of a collective redundancy plan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, workers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/gaming\/comments\/1uv7hxv\/ubisoft_barcelona_will_ne_holding_a_strike_for\/\">announced<\/a> a strike against the layoffs will take place today, Tuesday July 14, and continue over the next couple of days. A flyer advertising the walkout claims that &#8220;51 staff will lose their jobs in the coming weeks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After years of dedication to our team, the company has turned its back on us,&#8221; the flyer states. &#8220;We will never see the fruits of our labor, and the reward for our hard work will be the loss of our jobs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"slideshow\" data-slug=\"the-complete-assassins-creed-timeline\" data-value=\"the-complete-assassins-creed-timeline\" data-type=\"slug\" data-caption=\"\"><\/section>\n<p>Ubisoft plans for its Barcelona team to now focus solely on the Rainbow Six franchise, IGN understands, as part of wider organizational changes that have seen repeated reshufflings and redunancies across the whole company.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Ubisoft confirmed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/ubisoft-laying-off-100-staff-and-ending-game-development-at-ghost-recon-studio-red-storm-entertainment\">105 staff were set to depart veteran Tom Clancy game studio Red Storm Entertainment<\/a>, as part of a move that downsized the studio permanently, following three previous waves of layoffs at the company since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Ubisoft has cut hundreds of staff and fully closed numerous studios in recent times, with 2026 already off to a brutal start. In January, the company canceled six games including its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-remake\">Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/ubisoft-cancels-6-projects-including-prince-of-persia-sands-of-time-remake-closes-2-studios-and-confirms-further-layoffs-in-major-company-restructure\">closed two Ubisoft studios completely<\/a> (Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Halifax), while making layoffs at its office in Abu Dhabi, at Trials studio RedLynx and at Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora outfit Massive Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>Just a week after that, Ubisoft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/ubisoft-cancels-6-projects-including-prince-of-persia-sands-of-time-remake-closes-2-studios-and-confirms-further-layoffs-in-major-company-restructure\">announced plans to ditch 200 jobs at its company headquarters in Paris<\/a>, leading to protests within the French capital.
