As part of the restructure, four studios are leaving Xbox to new management, and one is now in consultation over its future.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/avowed-the-outer-worlds-pentiment-studio-obsidian-xbox-layoffs-2000713032\">Kotaku<\/a>, around 60-70 people were cut from Obsidian, which is the first-person role-playing game specialist behind Avowed, The Outer Worlds, Grounded, Pentiment, and, most famously, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/fallout-new-vegas\">Fallout: New Vegas<\/a>. Some of the staff who are leaving were Obsidian veterans.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"slideshow\" data-slug=\"the-100-best-xbox-games-of-all-time\" data-value=\"the-100-best-xbox-games-of-all-time\" data-type=\"slug\" data-caption=\"\"><\/section>\n<p>Kotaku quotes one person who said they were unsure how Obsidian\u2019s \u201chuge list of projects\u201d could continue following the cuts to the business. Obsidian has yet to announce a new game following the commercial failure of both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, but it is continuing to work on early access game Grounded 2 and The Outer Worlds 2 DLC.<\/p>\n<p>Could Obsidian be put to work on a brand new Fallout or The Elder Scrolls game, or support the development of new games made primarily elsewhere? Sharma has made it clear that Xbox wants to double down on its biggest franchises. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/we-need-to-change-course-bethesda-boss-tells-staff-the-company-must-focus-on-our-strongest-franchises-as-xbox-layoffs-hit-hard\">Bethesda boss Jill Braff has told staff much the same<\/a>.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"tier-list\" data-id=\"ec5b6124-647e-4627-83ed-8ee7351cf655\"><\/section>\n<p>Without naming games, Braff said \u201cto best position Bethesda for future growth, we are shifting from a planning model primarily centered on what&#8217;s next for each independent studio to one that focuses on our strongest franchises and determining the content roadmap that best serves our players and Bethesda as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom there, we\u2019ll align the right talent, technology, and resources across the organization to deliver on those priorities,\u201d Braff added. Could Obsidian be roped in to help out?<\/p>\n<p>Could Microsoft give Obsidian the order to make Fallout: New Vegas 2? &#8220;I know everyone on the internet, on every game we ever announce, will constantly reference back to, &#8216;When&#8217;s the next New Vegas?'&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/obsidian-knows-whenever-it-announces-a-new-game-everyone-asks-about-fallout-new-vegas-2-but-it-loves-making-original-ip-and-sequels-to-them\">Obsidian&#8217;s VP of operations Marcus Morgan said last year<\/a>, referencing the studio&#8217;s beloved Fallout game that&#8217;s served as the inspiration for the hit Amazon TV series&#8217; second season setting.<\/p>\n<p>There are also question marks over the mystery project Tim Cain, one of the creators of the original Fallout video game, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/dont-bother-guessing-youre-not-going-to-guess-right-tim-cain-one-of-the-creators-of-the-original-fallout-has-rejoined-xbox-studio-obsidian-to-work-on-a-mystery-project\">rejoined Obsidian to work on<\/a> in December 2025.
