The functionality \u2013 dubbed Hybrid Mode \u2013 has been explained in full on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubisoft.com\/en-gb\/game\/the-crew\/the-crew-2\/news-updates\/zs6ZFyLEQvKbFskEJZolR\/the-crew-2-hybrid-mode-is-now-available\"><u>publisher\u2019s website<\/u><\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>According to Ubisoft, Hybrid Mode gives us the \u201cfreedom to choose\u201d how we want to play The Crew 2. That is, online mode (which is \u201cthe original experience as it was designed from the start, complete with multiplayer features, leaderboards, summits, and community sharing\u201d) or offline mode (which the publisher describes as \u201ca new experience\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you\u2019re looking to preserve your progression for the future or simply enjoy the freedom of playing without a connection, Hybrid Mode ensures The Crew 2 remains accessible for years to come,\u201d explains the publisher.<\/p>\n<p>To transfer progression into offline mode, players can simply select \u201cExport to Offline Save\u201d after a session online. Doing so will create a copy of current progression in the game\u2019s multiplayer world stored locally on a personal PC or console. Ubisoft notes online and offline saves are separate, however, so progress made offline will not carry back over into online saves. Players will be able to re-export online saves to update offline files at any time.<\/p>\n<p>Custom liveries will not transfer to offline saves.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"ignvideo\" data-slug=\"the-crew-2014-2024-one-last-ride\" data-loop=\"\"><\/section>\n<p>An offline mode for The Crew 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/ubisoft-adding-offline-modes-to-the-crew-2-and-the-crew-motorfest-but-the-original-is-gone-for-good\"><u>was announced last year<\/u><\/a> in the wake of the the shutdown of the original game in March 2024. Disappointed players of The Crew (which was not a free-to-play game, but became inaccessible for its owners to play after its shutdown \u2013 even solo) were justifiably concerned about The Crew 2 suffering the same fate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe heard your concerns about access to The Crew games,\u201d Ubisoft said at the time. \u201cToday, we want to express our commitment to the future of The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. We can confirm an offline mode to ensure long term access to both titles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ubisoft was subsequently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/ubisoft-sued-after-shutting-down-the-crew\"><u>sued after the shutdown<\/u><\/a>, a lawsuit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/ubisofts-the-crew-lawsuit-insists-we-do-not-own-the-games-we-buy\"><u>publisher responded to<\/u><\/a> by insisting that buying a game doesn\u2019t give players \u201cunfettered ownership rights\u201d to it, but rather only a \u201climited license to access the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"divider\"><\/section>\n<p><em>Luke is a Senior Editor on the IGN reviews team.
