Samson Coming To Consoles This Fall

Uncategorized

Samson, the 1990s-set, gritty open-world action-adventure/brawler directed by Just Cause creator Christofer Sundberg that suffered a buggy release on PC earlier this month, is coming to consoles this fall (Editor's Note: IGN asked if "consoles" included Nintendo Switch 2 in addition to the presumed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, as Unreal Engine 5-based games like Samson have for the most part not shown up on Nintendo's new console so far, but a game representative could not confirm which consoles this does or does not include as of now). In the meantime, developer Liquid Swords has announced a comprehensive patch and content update schedule.

We were excited about Samson after playing an hour of it for preview, but unfortunately bugs and repetition marred its launch on PC, and IGN gave it a 4 out of 10 in our review, even though we recognize it does some really cool stuff that even GTA doesn't do and can make you feel like Ryan Gosling in the 2011 movie Drive. Now, Liquid Swords has detailed what the rest of the year looks like as they try to fix and improve on the path to a console launch this fall.

According to the developer, patches will continue to roll out weekly into early May, "with Updates 3–6 focused on combat refinements, new car variants, performance optimization, and community-driven fixes." As far as adding more content to Samson, Content Update 1 due in mid-may will be "a dedicated combat expansion bringing new depth to the game's grounded, physical fighting system," while Content Update 2 in mid-June will deliver "a vehicle-focused expansion adding to the driving experience."

Liquid Swords told IGN that the team "is dedicated to ensuring Samson will grow significantly across quality, gameplay, and content. The studio is actively taking in player feedback on Discord and forums to inform its priorities for updates."
